Super Falcons striker, Desire Oparanozie has taken to her social media page to offer her heartfelt apologies to Nigerians after she failed to score her penalty kick in the tension-filled RO16 match against England.
Oparanozie missed her kick and it one could easily suggest that it led to a loss in confidence because the spot-kick taker after her, Michelle Alozie also missed hers.
Nigeria failed to advance to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 quarter-finals after they lost 4 -2 to England on penalties.
The Super-Falcons put up a wonderful display during the course of 120 minutes and they almost took the lead more than twice, with their shots hitting the woodwork a number of times.
Oparanozie, who couldn’t convert her spot-kick shared a picture of herself in tears on Instagram and apologised following the team’s defeat via penalty shootout in the Round of 16.
Sharing the photo, she wrote ; “Sad day! Very disappointing to have lost through penalties, and even more disappointing not to have converted mine. And for this, I deeply apologise.”
