Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has revealed that growing up his father never allowed him to speak English.
Speaking in an interview with Cool FM, he claimed that his father was adamant about him speaking Yoruba, to ensure that he remained linked to his roots and native dialect.
According to him, his father raised him in London, emphasizing the importance of keeping his Yoruba cultural background and language.
Marley’s fluent Yoruba-speaking talents, which he masterfully blends into his songs, are a product of his father’s rigorous upbringing.
Notably, he released a song called “Aye,” which was entirely in Yoruba, demonstrating his devotion to promoting his cultural identity through artistic expression.
