“How my aunt was almost thrown out from the house she bought by second wife after husband’s death” – Nigerian lady
The tweet triggered a discussion on gender roles and the need of giving credit where credit is due.
She tweeted;
“If u buy yourself a car, tell everyone your husband bought it for u. If you pay your children’s school fees, tell dem their father did. If you buy gifts for your children, tell them their father bought it. Etc. Never take a man’s crown from his head, give him all the credit.”
Assam reacted to this by telling her aunt’s personal experience as a cautionary tale.
According to Assam, her aunt had worked hard to acquire multiple homes and pay for her children’s school fees, all of which were registered in her husband’s name.
Unfortunately, after her husband died, his second wife almost removed Assam’s aunt from her own house since the second wife had a court marriage certificate and the properties were in her legal husband’s name.
In her words;
My aunty did that, bought houses put it under her husband’s name, paid fees for her kids put it under her husband’s name. Now he got married to a second wife and when he died he was almost thrown out because second wife had a court marriage certificate. Ladies don’t do that a responsible man will never and ever watch his wife do that cuz they both have those children and there is absolutely nothing.her kids put it under her husband’s name. Now he got married to a second wife and when he died he was almost thrown out because second wife had a court marriage certificate. Ladies don’t do that a responsible man will never and ever watch his wife do that cuz they both have those children and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the kids knowing that their mom did it for them. If the man loses his job if he is responsible he will definitely look for other means to support the family and beside why count who does what and who doesn’t?. The kids are supposed to know that their parents did and not their father or mother c’mon.”
